Golaghat: A policeman allegedly molested a girl following which several organisations ransacked a police station in Assam's Golaghat district on Thursday, official sources said.
A girl on Thursday filed an FIR with Furkating police station that a constable of the police station molested her on Wednesday night.
Several organisations, including Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and women's organisations, gheraoed the police station today demanding immediate arrest of the policeman.
The policeman, Robin Bora, absconded from duty following which angry locals ransacked the police station. Later, the absconding policeman was traced and taken into custody while the girl was sent for medical examination. Senior police and civil officials rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that necessary action would be taken in this regard after due investigations, sources added.
