Assam Govt to file case against NE TV
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday said the government will file a case against Northeast Television.

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi strongly condemned the Northeast Television for reporting that the state administration allegedly paid money to banned outfit ULFA to withdraw its call to boycott the National Games.

Gogoi on Wednesday said the government will file a case against the television.

"We are going to file a case against the channel. I have taken the matter very seriously and we are not going to spare them," PTI quoted Gogoi saying.

“The channel reported that it didn't run the story, but I have video recording of the news item and I will certainly take action against them, he added.

On Tuesday, the ULFA warned the premier channel, owned by Congress leader Matang Singh that would have to wind up its operations in Assam if it failed to prove its report that the banned outfit had taken money from the government to withdraw its call to boycott the National Games.

The report had said that ULFA had clandestinely accepted money from the government to consider withdrawing its call to boycott the National games, scheduled to be held here during February 9-18.

Talking about the delay in denying the report, Gogoi asked why the channel took six days to deny the report.

"We never paid any money to anybody. The report is malicious and why it took six days for the channel to deny the report," Gogoi said.
