New Delhi: It's been almost a year since the fourth generation iPad was introduced in October 2012, and it seems that the fifth-generation iPad, dubbed iPad 5, launch is not very far. Apple has been observed launching the next-generation of its iPad within a year - in fact, the fourth-gen iPad arrived six months after the launch of the iPad 3.
While there is no official word from Apple on the next-gen iPad, the rumour mill has started churning out rumours about the upcoming iPad 5, which is likely to be 2 millimetres shorter and 15 millimetres narrower than its predecessor. It could also be lighter and about 2 millimetres thinner.
If reports are to be believed, Apple is likely to unveil the iPad 5 at its event on October 15. As the date is getting nearer, leaked images and videos of the device have started surfacing.
Chinese accessories company SW-Box has posted a video of a purported iPad 5 back cover and compares it with the iPad 4 and the iPad Mini. The look of the iPad 5 deviates away from the iPad 4 and is much closer to the iPad Mini. The back cover also shows the presence of a rear microphone hole that isn't there in the earlier versions of the iPad.
Reports also claim that the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, which made its debut with the iPhone 5S, will also be included in the new iPad 5.
Sonny Dickson, who attracted attention in August after releasing the exact and detailed pictures of the new iPhones, has also posted a few leaked images of the new 5th-gen iPad's rear casing in both Space Grey and Silver. (See below)
