Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday appealed to youths not to take to extreme step like committing suicide as it could not be a solution to any problem.
The Chief Minister was reacting to two separate incidents in Warangal over the last four days where a student and an auto-rickshaw driver committed suicide allegedly for the cause of Telangana state.
Talking to reporters informally, the Chief Minister said suicides would not solve any problem.
"Suicides are committed in a fit of emotion...when one fails in love or in examinations or due to family problems," he remarked.
When a reporter asked if he was trying to equate the suicides (in Telangana) with love failure or other such factors, the Chief Minister shot back: "Are you thinking so?"
He felt the delay in the Centre taking a decision on Telangana could be due to other pressing "national problems." "The Centre would take a decision on Telangana statehood issue at an appropriate time," he reiterated.
Kiran Kumar also denied having sent any reports to the Centre on the Telangana issue as stated by some Congress MPs from the region.
Questioned about the stability of his government in the wake of increased rift within the Congress following the by-election results, the Chief Minister remarked, "It (The AP government) is as stable as any other government in the country."
Questioned about growing dissident voices in the party seeking his ouster, Kiran noted that Congress always gave a "long rope" (to dissidents).
"They will be given enough time to correct themselves...action will be taken if they cross the line," he added.
