New Delhi: Wild elephants have become a menace for people living along the Orissa border in Andhra Pradesh.

Over the last 15 days, more than 20 people have lost their lives and more than 50 have been injured by the elephants in the Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts.

Many people have stopped going to work, even as the Andhra government has started Operation Jumbo to send the elephants back to Orissa.

Says a forest official, Padnabham, "We have come to know about these elephants and we are studying the matter. We are well-prepared to send them back to the jungle."

Adds a resident of Vijaynagram, Anjamma, "We had never seen elephants. We do not know from where these elephants have come. They have killed two people from our village."
