Anand's new move: AIDS ambassador
Grandmaster will help Indian branch of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to raise awareness about the disease.

Mumbai:Indian grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand will be the HIV/AIDS ambassador for Avahan, the Indian chapter of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Anand would raise awareness about the epidemic in India by becoming part of Avahan's public education campaigns, a press release said

Anand will help the foundation in its grassroots campaigns in Tamil Nadu, one of the states hit hardest by the HIV epidemic.

"It is imperative for all sectors of the society to join hands and work together to contain the epidemic", said Anand. "We hope to create a significant understanding and compassion through our campaign as we concentrate on removing the stigma attached to the disease."

The foundation is the world’s largest charitable foundation and was set up by Bill Gates, chairman and founder of Microsoft, and his wife, Melinda Gates in January 2000. Since then the couple has donated more than $100 million to help children suffering from AIDS.
