Vijaya Rajan, Chairperson, Craft Council of India who inaugurated the exhibition said, “The most important thing for craftsmen is marketing. They need to find a market for their products, and exhibitions like these definitely help them sell their products better.”Held annually, this year Poompuhar officials have set a target of 220 such exhibitions all over India to showcase the products of craftsmen. “We have held exhibitions in Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bangalore among other places. The response has been overwhelming,” Poompuhar officials told City Express.Vijaya appreciated the efforts undertaken by the craftsmen to bring their products to the limelight and added that general exhibitions help craftsmen meet their consumers directly. “Interacting with the consumers helps them figure out what products sell and what don’t. That will help them make saleable products in the future,” she said.Officials said about 150 craftsmen had participated in the exhibitions all over India and 50 artisans from various states showcased their products on Saturday.
