Amid ceasefire violations, Indian, Pakistani troops forgo exchange of sweets on Eid

Wagah: Tensions between India and Pakistan have shown their effect on the age-old Eid tradition between the security forces of the two countries. After incidents of repeated ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, the traditional exchange of sweets between the Indian and Pakistani forces at the Attari-Wagah border on Eid has been called off.

In 2014, too, no sweets were exchanged between the two countries but the tradition was resumed in March 2015. However, the tradition was not followed by the security forces agan.

Neither the Border Security Force officers along the Indian border nor the Pakistan rangers on the other said made any preparations for the ceremonial exchange of sweets on the day.

There have been a series of ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan which has resorted to mortar shelling of Indian areas over the past two days. There have been multiple casualties due to the firing.
