New Delhi: Kobad Ghandy, who was jailed in 2009 for alleged connections with Maoists, is on a hunger strike in Tihar Jail. The 68-year-old Ghandy alleged harassment by jail authorities.
In his letter Ghandy wrote, "Though routine transfers of High Risk Ward prisoners have been going on for four years, I was subjected to this only from August 2014. In the new jail all medical treatment gets interrupted. As all the appeals, on both humanitarian and legal grounds have been ignored I have had to go on an indefinite hunger strike."
Earlier, his request to be transferred to a senior citizens ward was also denied.
Jailed since 2009, Ghandy said jail authorities transferred him three times between different wards in a bid to target his failing health.
Ghandy suffers from heart and kidney ailments and a slipped disc.
