Allahabad HC Orders Suspension of Two District Magistrates Over Illegal Mining Case
Rajiv Rautela and Rakesh Kumar Singh are accused of promoting illegal mining during their tenure as district magistrates in Rampur despite the ban on mining in the state.

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has ordered the suspension of two district magistrates — Rajiv Rautela and Rakesh Kumar Singh — in a case related to illegal mining from Kosi River in Rampur district.

Rautela and Singh are accused of promoting illegal mining during their tenure as district magistrates in Rampur despite the ban on mining in Uttar Pradesh.

The Allahabad High Court has also directed the UP Chief Secretary to take disciplinary action against these DMs and submit a report on January 16, 2018. The HC has given instructions to investigate the role of administrative and police officials in the case and to take departmental action.

The order has been passed by a bench of Chief Justice DB Bhosale and Justice MK Gupta on a PIL filed by one Maqsood.

The PIL alleged that the licence of sand storage was given to one Nanhe despite the ban. It is also alleged that the court order was ignored and an attempt was made to overlook the matter without any proper investigation.

The court has also summoned DM Rampur Shiv Sahai Awasthi and asked how the licence was issued to the tainted contractor, on which the DM suspended the license in November 2017.
