Bengaluru: A few days ahead of French President Francois Hollande's visit, the French Consulate in Bengaluru has received a threat letter.
Hollande is the chief guest at the Republic Day parade and is likely to arrive in Chandigarh on January 24.
Police sources said that the letter was posted from Chennai and investigation is on. A case was registered on January 14 in this regard.
Heavy security has been in place and an additional 10,000 paramilitary personnel have been deployed in Delhi. The deployment of the additional paramilitary forces in the national capital comes in after the terrorist attack on the Pathankot IAF base in which seven security personnel were martyred.
"Highest possible security cover will be given in Delhi in the run up to the Republic Day and during the celebration where the French President will be the chief guest," a Home Ministry official said. A total of 50 companies (100 personnel in each company) of paramilitary forces were deployed to ensure security of Republic Day in 2014. The number had been increased to 95 companies in 2015 when US President Barack Obama was the chief guest
This year, it has been decided to deploy 100 companies of paramilitary personnel, the official said.
In order to ensure fool-proof security, as many as 71 high-rise buildings in the vicinity of Rajpath will be shut down either partially or completely on or before January 25.
Police will take over these buildings and sanitise every nook and corner manually, following which snipers will be positioned on the rooftops.
