Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's niece Karuna Shukla, who quit BJP last week, praised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi over the development in his state, but also targetted him over the 2002 post-Godhra riots.

"Modi has done good work in Gujarat, but the stains of Godhra incident cannot be wiped off from Narendra Modi's clothes," Shukla told reporters.

Targetting Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh over the Darbha naxal attack on Congress leaders in May in which 29 persons were killed, she said, "The stains of Jiram valley naxal attack in which Congress leaders were martyred, can't be wiped off from Raman Singh's name."

After quitting the party ahead of the state polls scheduled this month, Shukla is now campaigning for the BJP rebels and the Opposition party candidates. Shukla reached Rajnandgaon on Wednesday, the Constituency being ruled by Raman Singh, to campaign for Congress candidate Alka Mudliyar, wife of the former Congress MLA Uday Mudliyar, who was killed in Darbha naxal attack.

However, when asked about it, Shukla told PTI that she is not campaigning for any political party, but for those candidates who have approached her for canvassing in their respective constituencies.

BJP rebels who are contesting elections as independent besides the candidates of Congress and Chhattisgarh Swabhiman Manch have approached her for campaigning, she said.

"I will not campaign for any (particular) party, but I will campaign for those, who are contacting me personally for campaigning in their region," she added.

Shukla, former BJP Mahila Morcha National President and former Lok Sabha MP, had resigned from the party on October 26 alleging that she has been continuously "neglected" by the senior leaders. The state BJP had said that it try to convince Shukla to reconsider her resignation.

However, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Chief Charandas Mahant had welcomed Shukla in his fold after her resignation and asked her to campaign for his party.
