Adarsh scam: human rights panel chief quits
Subhash Lalla was the secretary to former Maharashtra CM Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Mumbai: Former secretary to Maharashtra chief minister, Subhash Lalla, has resigned from his current post of state human rights commission chief following allegations of his involvement in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam.

Lalla had earlier refused to quit when asked by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. Lalla was secretary to the then chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde when the Adarsh files were being processed.

Lalla and Maharashtra Chief Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari had figured in the Adarsh scam as direct beneficiaries. His daughter and mother are beneficiaries of the Adarsh Society scam.

The former bureaucrats have been insisting there is no direct evidence against them.

Moreover, the duo has been claiming that since they hold constitutional offices, the chief minister does not have any authority to seek their resignations.
