Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government led by VS Achuthanandan that has been in power for six months has failed on all fronts, Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy said on Saturday.
"Today he is completing six months in office and the day's newspapers report of three farmers committing suicide in Wayanad district. His score sheet after six months has 49 farmers' suicides and 17 custodial deaths apart from daily reports of women being attacked," Chandy said.
He said the state government's failure was directly responsible for five deaths - that of a sex abuse victim, a girl student taking her life after she could not pay fees, two farmers' suicides and the death of a Malaysian citizen who was supervising a major road construction project in Thiruvananthapuram.
"This government cancelled unique projects launched by us which include pension for dairy and agricultural workers, a health insurance scheme and the Hill Area Development Agency," said Chandy, a former Chief Minister.
"One of the major constraints in the smooth functioning of the government has been the issues within Achuthanandan's party (Communist Party of India-Marxist)," he added.
The Congress leader said the Dec 4 Thiruvambady Assembly by-election would be a referendum on Achuthanandan's governance.
