CHENNAI: The kidnapped 17-year-old boy, Yuvaraj of 12th West Cross Street, MKB Nagar, would often take money from the amount he would have kept aside for investment in his business, according to his father, Krishnan. Police sources said that the boy would spend his pocket money on his friends and that could have made the kidnappers devise a plan to extort more money.Krishnan, who runs a scrap shop in Perungudi, said that he would bring home cash for investing in his business and his son would frequently take  money without informing him. “I usually come home with Rs 10,000-15,000  for buying things for my business and my son would take Rs 1,000-1,500 from it. Though he never disclosed it to me, I know it was he who took the money,” Krishnan said.Their children got all they wanted, his father admitted. “I got him a bike as he liked racing. Even a week back, he fell down from the bike and came home injured.” “I spent Rs 5,000 for his treatment. Then I snatched his bike keys and asked him to stay away from the vehicle,” Krishnan said.  The boy’s father added that no matter where his son went, he would return home by 10.30 pm.  “I searched Kovalam, Madhavaram and many places and fell suspicious as he would always get back home no matter wherever he goes. Then I received the ransom call,” he said, while adding that the abductors had beaten up his son.Krishnan also said that he had never seen any of the four boys arrested by the police in the kidnap case. “I go to my shop early and come home late. I knew only his school friends and not others. May be, they used to come to meet my son when I was away,” Krishnan said.Meanwhile, Yuvraj’s neighbours claimed that Yuvaraj’s friends would often drop by. “Some friends would come to see him but his parents would never allow him to go with them,” a neighbour claimed.Neighbours in the Kodungaiyur locality where the boy was held captive, were equally shocked. Bachelors living on the ground and the first floors of the three-storey house belonging to Vijay, one of the arrested persons, claimed that they were unaware that a boy was held captive in the same house. “He lived in a room on the second floor and some friends used to visit him. We rented this house only three months back but noticed nothing unusual. It was only when the police came on Wednesday night and asked us if we knew that a boy was held captive in the same house,” said one of the residents.A neighbour claimed that she used to advise Vijay to perform well in studies as he lived alone after his family left for their native Melapalayam near Tirunelveli, following his father’s death in an accident.
