HYDERABAD: The state government succeeded in conducting the first paper of the APPSC Group-II examination on Saturday, despite the opposition of striking Telangana Political Joint Action Committee and Students’ JAC members.Though some candidates protested at some exam centres in Nalgonda and Warangal, it did not disturb conducting of the examination. However, no untoward incident was reported in the remaining T districts, including the state capital. As most TJAC leaders were busy in organising the three-day rail roko, police found no difficulties at the centres.Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission secretary, Poonam Malkondaiah said about 71.14 per cent candidates attended the examination at 1,064 centres across the state which is 5.43 per cent more than 2008 Group-II exam attendance. The Rayalaseema region fared well with 74.09 per cent attendance followed by Andhra region at 71.94 per cent and Telangana at 69.65 per cent. The invigilators in four examination centres in Nalgonda district debarred five students as they raised Jai Telangana slogans. Two of them even tore their hall tickets and examination papers at the Alpha Junior College, just after invigilators started distributing question papers. Police took them into custody. District collector Muktheshwara Rao asked police to file a case against candidates for violating examination rules. In Warangal, some candidates said to be of Kakatiya University, also tore down their hall tickets and gave Jai Telangana slogans. Police also took them into custody.About eight KU students attempted to barge in to Viday Bharathi college, one of the 73 examination centres, but police foiled their attempt. Tense situation prevailed at many examination centres in Warangal town. Police resorted to lathi-charge before an exam centre to bring the situation under control. Hyderabad recorded very low turnout, as only 17,045 candidates out of 47,100 applied attended the exam. The remaining two papers will be held on Sunday.
