Notorious criminals Siva (alias) Track Siva and Anand (alias) Anandkumar were among seven arrested on Monday for hurling a country-made bomb at a timber merchant’s house in Naveena Garden here on last Thursday (July 26).
Superintendent of police (North) S Ramaraj said the two were arrested along with five others of an eight-member gang from a crematorium on Cuddalore road. Others arrested include Chandru (23), Mani (alias) Bomb Mani (22), Karthick (alias) Eli Karthick (23), Vicky (alias) Vickraj (21) and Pandi (alias) Sundara Pandian (24). One of the gang members managed to escape as the police approached.
SP Ramaraj said all the arrested had several cases against them, the most notorious among them being Track Siva. On questioning, Track Siva and Anandkumar confessed to throwing country-bomb at the house of timber merchant, Naresh Patel, who owns a shop on the 100 feet road.
Ramaraj said Patel had received some threatening calls a few days ago demanding maamool (protection money). However, the timber seller did not oblige.
It may be recalled that a few months ago, a spare parts owner from the 100 feet road was hacked to death following his refusal to pay protection money. Then also, threatening calls were made by rowdies to his for extorting money from him.
