An FIR has registered against the building's owner for negligence and culpable homicide.

New Delhi: Five people have died after a four-storey building collapsed in the Vishnu Garden area of West Delhi on Saturday night. Eight people have been rescued from the debris.

Eight fire tenders, teams of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), local police and officials from district administration are carrying out rescue operations at the site of the building collapse at C Block near Masjid Khayala area.

"Structure of the building was weak. Teams have been working continuously working from last 12 hours," said the Director General of the NDRF.

An FIR has registered against the building's owner for negligence and culpable homicide. Residents and locals had also complained to the owner that the building was beginning to tilt.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Jarnail Singh blamed the Municipal Corporation for the mishap.

Delhi Fire Department Chief AK Sharma said all concerned agencies are working together to rescue those trapped under the debris.

He said that the narrow passage leading to the collapsed building made it difficult for rescue teams to take their equipment to the site.

An official said that the building caved in as digging was going on at an adjacent plot for construction of a new structure.
