Chennai: Nearly three lakh personnel will be on election duty in 51,534 polling stations for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in May 8.

Tamil Nadu Chief Election Officer, Naresh Gupta said that out of the total personnel involved in election duty, 2.34 lakh people would be on polling duty.

There would be 82 counting centres, located at 60 towns. Majority of the polling personnel had been drafted from the Central and state governments, public sector undertakings and local bodies, Gupta said.

“There will be a mix of personnel of different departments in every polling station,” Gupta added.

Two special observers had already been appointed and very soon four or five more would be appointed.

Also 196 companies of Central Para Military Forces would be deployed which is the highest in any elections in Tamil Nadu.
