CHENNAI: With the arrest of three youngsters at Thiruvottiyur, the city police claimed to have cracked a case of murder of a railway employee after close to two years on Saturday. Police said 55-year-old Jagannath Subba Rao, a railway employee from Thiruvottiyur and a native of Sullurpet, Andhra Pradesh, was reported missing on June 7, 2010. After close to two years, police have arrested his three persons, including the victim’s grandson.Police said the victim and his brother Panduranga Rao had a legal dispute over a land, which the 55-year-old won. Following that, Panduranga Rao’s grandson Jagannath Rajesh alias Vamsi (21) along with his two friends Ramachandran and Ramesh had taken Subba Rao in a car to AP and strangulated him before disposing of his body on the railway tracks of Sullurpet. After recovering the body, the police marked it as unidentified.Police said that some time back, Vamsi’s friends had blurted out — under influence of liquor — to Subba Rao’s grandson Jagannath Venketraman that they bumped off his grandfather. Venketraman informed the police, who arrested the duo. Vamsi was already in Puzhal prison in a theft case.
