CHENNAI: A 26-year-old man jumped into the Cooum allegedly due to love failure at Egmore on Sunday. He is yet to be traced. Sources said P Dilip Kumar, the victim, was the sole breadwinner of his family. His father Pandian died some years ago and he lived with his mother Kala and two younger sisters at Chintadripet. He was in love with a girl for the last eight years and was reportedly being threatened by her relatives regarding the affair. Last month, he consumed poison and was rushed to a hospital and saved. His statement, alleging threat from his girlfriend’s relative, Balachander, was recorded by the Chintadripet police. “He was continuously harassed by Balachander and his goons,” sources added. “But police did not take any action.” On Sunday, around 1 pm, Dilip jumped from the bridge at Chintadripet into the Cooum. Fire and rescue services personnel searched for him till 7 pm, but in vain. Fire at Plastic FactoryA fire broke out at a plastic factory, destroying goods worth thousands of rupees, at Kunrathur on Sunday. The factory owned by Danesh Babu in Thirumudivakkam, was started only three months. Around 3 pm, residents noticed smoke emanating from the factory and Fire Service control room was informed.
