A 21-year-old youth died at the Shakir Ali Khan Hospital in Bhopal allegedly after remaining neglected for four hours. The incident took place on Monday after Raja experienced chest pain around seven in the morning and went to the government Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital where doctors instead of keeping him under observation, sent him away after prescribing him some tablets.

He then reached another government hospital Shakir Ali Khan Hospital where he died even as formalities for his admission there were being completed. According to the Convenor of Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan, Abdul Jabbar, the youth was continuously pleading that he may be given immediate treatment as he was unable to breathe but he remained unattended.

Refuting the allegations, the Chief Medical Officer of the Shakir Ali Khan Hospital, Dr Ravi Verma, however said that a X-Ray had been taken out for the youth but he died before any treatment could be given to him. Jabbar said that the X-Ray could have waited and the youth should first have been given oxygen to save his life. He said it was not unusual for patients who are brought to emergency wards in government hospitals to die due to lack of treatment.
