Health minister Dr V S Vijay on Saturday announced that the State government would soon establish 20 more new Primary Health Centres and upgrade 20 existing PHCs across the State in a bid to strengthen urban health care services.
The minister inaugurated an urban PHC at Ranipet. Vellore would soon have another urban PHC at Thorapadi, he added. He said the Government Pentland Hospital in the city had been revived as a 100-bedded facility that had been providing health care to the urban people. Shortly, a trauma care facility would also be added to the GPH, he added.
Around one lakh new cards, for availing of the insurance coverage, had been issued to people, he said. He distributed Rs 2.8 lakh assistance to 45 beneficiaries under the Dr Muthulakshmi Maternity assistance scheme.
Deputy Director Public Health services, Dr Somasundaram said seven urban PHCs had been opened this year in Wallajah, Arakonam, Arcot, Tirupattur, Ambur, Vaniyambadi and Gudiyattam.
