DAVANGERE: A historical bronze plate, bearing inscriptions in Urdu, Sanskrit and Kannada probably belonging to the Delhi Badshah period, has been found at Beeragondanahalli village in Honnali taluk.According to Burudekatte Manjappa, a history researcher from Davanagere, the rare bronze plate was found at the house of one B Y Parameshwarappa in the village, among some old books, and had inscriptions in Modi lipi, a language used in the 12th century. The plate is being studied by senior scholar U Sanganala and history lecturer Siddappa K, both of whom are trying to ascertain other details, such as from where it belongs to. The plate is 14-inches high, 13-inches wide, and has the moon and star marks on the top.It is said that it may have been called the ’merit letter’ and may belong to the Chayra Delhi Badshah period. The plate also describes of a marriage that took place during this period, which is difficult to study, stated Manjappa. The letters on the bronze plate seem to have been made using a hammer and a sharpener, he added.
