BANGALORE: Out of the 26 nominations by 20 candidates for the Banashankari Temple Ward by-election, only 12 candidates remain as the rest have withdrawn their nominations as Thursday was their last day to withdraw nominations.The by-election has been necessitated following the murder of JD(S) corporator Diwan Ali by his rivals, more than five months ago. Now the JD(S) has given the party ticket to his brother Mohammed Akbar, who is also allegedly involved in similar activities. The BJP is fielding A H Basavaraj, touted to be the next Mayor, if elected.Anwar Pasha is contesting on behalf of the Congress.Sheik Wajid of JD(U) and B N Raghu of Communist Party of India are also in the fray.Purshotham is the Janata Party candidate. Nayaz Pasha, Mohammed Azgar, Mohammed Nayaz, Sheik Aslam Pasha, Khalimullah Khan have contested as independents.Afsar Khan, one of the accused in the murder of corporator Diwan Ali, has filed his nominations from jail.
