Mumbai: A special Mumbai court on Tuesday remanded former super cop Daya Nayak and his associate Rajendra Padte to police custody till March 1.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau produced Daya Nayak and his business associate in the court, and the court granted 10 day police custody for both.
Daya Nayak was arrested on Monday after he handed himself over to a Mumbai court.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau is probing Daya Nayak and his wife for possessing unaccounted assets. It had earlier declared Nayak an absconder. But Nayak says he is being victimised by his seniors.
Police believe Nayak used his fearsome reputation to extort money from underworld figures and Bollywood celebrities.
He denies the allegations. The investigation was launched after it was discovered he had assets in excess of Rs 40 lakhs when he was earning just RS 10,000 a month and his wife was not working, according to a report filed by the Bombay police's anti-corruption bureau.
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan is among several top figures in India's film industry who are to be questioned in the case.
