The Telangana Congress held a meeting with the members of All India Ex-Servicemen Cell in Hyderabad on Monday and assured them of meting out “justice” to them and fighting for their “right” of One Rank One Pension (OROP) till the 2024 elections.
The meeting was attended by cell chairman Colonel Rohit Chaudhry, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy, Nalgonda MP Uttam Kumar Reddy (a former Indian Air Force pilot) and other office bearers. Chaudhry said the Congress will set straight the injustice done to ex-servicemen by the Narendra Modi-led government.
“Despite several protests, the Modi government is yet to address the anomalies of the ‘One Rank One Pension’ scheme, which was granted after we fought for it for hundreds of days. My fellow servicemen sat at the dharna at Jantar Mantar for days for their rights, but the government remained unconcerned. Now, we are not going to request anymore. We know how to fight and we will fight to take our right till 2024,” Colonel Rohit Chaudhry said.
“The Central government’s reservation for ex-servicemen in jobs remains on paper. That is why, they are forced to take up jobs as security guards,” added the ex-serviceman.
Stating that PM Modi has always politicised security forces, TPCC chief Reddy said the Congress government never dragged servicemen into politics even after winning two wars, and alleged that Modi let soldiers die in Pulwama just to win an election. “The man has been lying for the last nine years and it is high time that the people threw him out”.
He even said senior leader Rahul Gandhi and he took up the issue of non-reimbursement of medical bills of ex-servicemen with the government when they found out that city hospitals were extracting every penny from them. “Can’t we do this much for these brave men who protect our borders? ” he asked.
The Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency in Hyderabad has a sizeable number of ex-servicemen. It is part of Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency represented by MP Revanth Reddy.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Agnipath scheme introduced by the Modi government is disrupting the security of the country. He further said he wants to continuously fight for the welfare of ex-servicemen and join in strengthening their department in the Congress.
Hyderabad’s Gandhi Bhavan saw a lot of activity on Monday as former MLA Kothakota Seetha Dayakar Reddy of Devarakadra constituency joined the Congress along with her followers. In addition, BRS leaders from Manakondur, most of whom belong to Timmapur Mandal, joined the party.
Earlier in the morning, a Bhumi Puja was held at Tukkuguda Rajiv Gandhi premises where the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting will be held on September 17. AICC in-charge Manikrao Thakare, TPCC president Revanth Reddy and senior leader Madhu Yaskhi participated in event.
