How to Make a Cake in 10 Minutes
Do you ever have days when you just need cake, and fast? If you have a microwave, you can have your own fresh-baked serving of cake less time than it takes to get to the grocery store and back. Read on for instructions on how to make three different types of 10-minute cakes: classic chocolate, strawberries and cream, and wholesome pumpkin.
Steps

Classic Chocolate Cake

Gather ingredients. When what you need is a quick chocolate fix, this cake will hit the spot. All you need is 3 tablespoons (44.4 ml) cocoa powder, 4 tablespoons sugar, 4 tablespoons flour, 3 tablespoons milk, and an egg. For a fudgy, gooey, extra-chocolatey version of this cake, skip the milk and add just one tablespoon of flour, or leave it out entirely. It will come out with a richer consistency.Make a Cake in 10 Minutes Step 1Bullet1.jpg If you love the flavor of Nutella, add 3 tablespoons (44.4 ml) to the mix.Make a Cake in 10 Minutes Step 1Bullet2.jpg You could also add a tablespoon or two of peanut butter if you're so inclined.Make a Cake in 10 Minutes Step 1Bullet3.jpg Espresso or brewed coffee add depth of flavor - throw in a teaspoon or two. Add a few shakes of cinnamon and cayenne pepper for a spicy variation.

Mix the ingredients in a greased mug. Any microwave-safe mug will do; just make sure the batter doesn't rise higher than 2/3 way to the rim. Grease the mug with butter or oil, then use a spoon to mix the batter thoroughly until all lumps are removed and the ingredients are completely incorporated. If you don't have a microwave-safe mug, you can use a bowl or another dish. If you're planning to serve the cake to someone else instead of eating it straight from the dish, consider using a dish with a more cake-like shape, such as a ramekin.

Microwave the batter on high. Start by microwaving for 1 1/2 minutes. Check to make sure the mug isn't overflowing with batter; if it is, wipe it off and let it rest for a second. Then close the door and microwave for another 1 1/2 minutes before removing the mug from the microwave.

Invert the cake onto a plate or eat it straight from the mug. If you wish, add some toppings like icing, whipped cream, or strawberries before enjoying your cake.

Strawberries and Cream Cake

Gather the ingredients. This cake requires a few more ingredients, but it's worth the effort if you have a taste for something fruity. The strawberry flavor comes from yogurt; if you don't have strawberry yogurt on hand, you can substitute it with blueberry, raspberry, peach, or any other fruit flavor. Here's what you'll need: 2 tablespoons strawberry or other fruit yogurt 1 egg 1 tablespoon oil (vegetable or grapeseed) 1/8 teaspoon baking powder 4 tablespoons sugar 5 tablespoons flour Fresh fruit and whipped cream

Mix the ingredients in a mug. Put all of the ingredients except the fresh fruit and whipped cream in a large mug that you have greased with butter or oil. Use a spoon to mix the ingredients until there are no lumps (except those made by the bits of fruit).

Microwave the batter. Place the mug in the microwave and cook it on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Check to make sure the batter isn't overflowing; if it is, let it rest for a minute. Then close the door and microwave for another 1 1/2 minutes.

Top the cake. Spoon whipped cream over the top of the cake, then add some freshly cut strawberries. Enjoy straight from the mug with a spoon.

Wholesome Pumpkin Cake

Gather the ingredients. A cake made in ten minutes can give your sweet tooth a fix and be healthy at the same time. This pumpkin cake is perfect for a rainy fall day, or if you're a pumpkin lover, any time of year. Here's what you'll need: 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree 1 egg 1/8 teaspoon baking powder 4 tablespoons brown sugar 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour and 2 tablespoons (29.6 ml) white flour 2 tablespoons milk Sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground cloves Small pinch of salt

Mix the ingredients in a mug. Grease a mug with butter or oil. Pour the batter ingredients into the mug. Use a spoon to completely mix the ingredients together until no lumps remain.

Microwave the batter. Place the mug in the microwave and cook it on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Check to make sure the batter isn't overflowing; if it is, let it rest for a minute. Then close the door and cook the batter for another 1 1/2 minutes. You now have cake.

Enjoy your pumpkin cake. Either invert it onto a plate or eat it straight from the mug with a spoon. Consider adding toppings like whipped cream, chopped nuts, and maple syrup.

Finished.
