An around a week-old infant was found dumped on the Darbaripur road in Haryana’s Gurugram with its throat slit, police said on Friday. Soaked in blood, the baby was spotted by a sweeper on the morning of November 17 who swiftly informed the police.
Police officials reached the site and sent the body for post-mortem. Officials also made inquiries in the surrounding area about the baby but got no leads. A senior officer also noted they checked several CCTVs within 1 km of the crime spot but found nothing.
Meanwhile, the doctor who conducted the post-mortem, said that the child was no more than a week old.
On the basis of the post-mortem report released on Thursday, an FIR was registered against unknown persons at Badshahpur Police Station under charges of murder, destruction of evidence, and concealment of birth.
An investigation into the killing is underway with assistance from a crime branch team. Police are enquiring street vendors and other people to identify the child and the murderer.
In September 2023, a 28-year-old woman was booked by the Mumbai police for allegedly throwing her 39-day-old baby from the 14th floor of a building, leading to her death. According to reports, the accused is “mentally ill” and has speech and hearing disorders.
“We enquired with the mother and learnt she was speech and hearing impaired and her husband has the same disabilities. She is from Surat and had come to her parents’ home during pregnancy. She allegedly threw the girl around 6.30 am,” Hindustan Times quoted a police officer as saying.
