With Mbuemo's quickfire first-minute opener against the Hammers, Brentford have now become the only PL club to ever score a goal in the first minute of a game, for three consecutive matches.

In an unexpected turn of events, it is Brentford who have scripted Premier League history, thanks to forward Bryan Mbuemo’s strike against West Ham United on Saturday.

Over the course of the previous week, Brentford played two Premier League games in which they went up in the first minute.

First, Yoane Wissa stunned Man City, while Bryan Mbeumo followed suit and volleyed Brentford ahead against Tottenham last weekend.

And now, it was Mbeumo yet again, who netted a stunner against West Ham in just the 37th second of the match, to finally break the record.

The Bees also broke another record after the first two games, having scored the earliest ever combination of opening goals in successive matches.

The spectacular volley from Bryan Mbeumo against Tottenham Hotspur after only 23 seconds made it the second match running in which Brentford had scored so early in the Premier League, while Wissa had struck after only 22 seconds at Manchester City.

As well as registering the two fastest goals of the season so far, Brentford became only the second side in Premier League history to open the scoring inside the opening minutes of consecutive matches.

The only other team to do so were Manchester City in 2018/19.

However, the other thing the first two games had in common was that the Bees ended up losing them.

Man City won 2-1 thanks to Erling Haaland’s brace in the first half. Tottenham beat Brentford 3-1: Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson scored before the break before a late goal from James Maddison.

Their losing trend will definitely be one that they shall look to avoid as they take on Julen Lopetegui’s Hammers.
