New Delhi: The ambiguous financial future of current Manchester United sponsors AIG is causing the club to seek other options elsewhere in case the firm are, as speculated, forced to prematurely end their link with the Premier League champions.
As such, the Old Trafford outfit have been holding talks with insurance giants Aon over a shirt sponsorship deal that could fetch United an annual sum that exceeds £20 million, according to weekend newspaper the Sunday Mirror.
It has been reported that the new deal could be in place for pre-season, meaning Manchester United's kit next season would have the new sponsor dominating the front of their jerseys, and not AIG.
Aon have been in conversation with United ever since it was announced that the recession had hit AIG.
One 'insider' is reported to have told the weekend paper, "Talks have gone well and it's 90 per cent certain that Aon will be United's new shirt sponsor.
"Whether it happens next season or the year after is yet to be decided," the insider concluded.
