Srinagar: Meraj ud Din Vadoo's story is one of success, hard work and a lot of grit. And he refuses to stop here. His aim is to hit the international circuit.
The 25-year-old Indian midfielder's journey began at a small club in Kashmir. But now, Meraj ud Din Vadoo is part of the East Bengal team which had to pay Mohun Bagan through the nose to retain him in their team.
But Vadoo is not happy. His move to Sao Paolo of Brazil was blocked after Mohun Bagan refused to let him leave. Nevertheless, Vadoo dreams to play in Europe.
"I want to play outside my country and I am very much interested to play in the Spanish League. So I have reached up to this level where I am working very hard," Vadoo says.
Even those who have trained Meraj believe that he is capable and fit to play in the big leagues.
"If Brazil has spotted him, I think he has it in him to play at the big leagues in Europe," Bashir Ahmed, Vadoo's coach says.
And it is this spirit in him to fight that inspires young footballers in Kashmir.
