Kolkata: Atletico de Kolkata marquee player Helder Postiga today hinted that he might be available for the team's next Indian Super League match against Delhi Dynamos on October 22 as he has started training while continuing to recover from a rib injury.
"I feel much much better now... I've started training with the team for last one week. I want to give 100 per cent for the team. We have two more days. The coach will decide whether I'm ready for next game," the Portuguese World Cupper told reporters.
Postiga had failed to recover last season after his 72 minutes appearance in the first match as the former champions faced a similar situation when the 34-year-old sustained a rib injury in their second match.
Insisting that this injury was less serious, Postiga said: "This injury has no comparison to last season's. It was hard last year and the worst injury of my career.
"Injuries happen in football, second time for me in India. It's bad luck. There's little pain in my rib now but it's normal in football. I feel much much better," he said when asked about the status of his rib injury.
Both ATK and Delhi are unbeaten from four matches and their fixture may decide the fate of the two teams but Postiga said it's about maintaining continuity.
"This league is short. If you win two three games, you go on to top. Most important is continuity. I hope we will qualify for playoffs."
The Portuguese further congratulated Bengaluru FC for becoming the first Indian club to make the AFC Cup final with their 3-1 victory over defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim yesterday.
"I saw the first 30 minutes of the match. It's great news for Indian football something that shows that the sport is improving in India."
