Federation Cup: Bhaichung likely to miss the final
Bhaichung was stretchered off the field in the semis against East Bengal.

New Delhi: Mohun Bagan may have entered the finals of the 30th Federation Cup but the Kolkata giants are likely to miss the services of skipper Bhaichung Bhutia after the striker was stretchered off the field in the first session of the extra time.

The veteran had heavily padded his knees in order to keep them protected from a potential injury threat. Some reckless challenges including a double footed lunge by Nirmal Chhetri didn’t help the cause.

After the game, Bhaichung was taken to hospital and is expected to undergo MRI scan to evaluate the extent of damage done.

Speaking to Goal.com, Mohun Bagan coach Karim Bencherifa said, “Most probably, we are to miss Bhaichung. Looking at his condition, one felt that the chances to make it on 21st are very slim.”

Mohun Bagan face Indian champions Dempo SC in what promises to be an entertaining encounter in the finals of the 30th Federation Cup.

“He hurt his knee and ankle as well. So it’s a double blow,” added Bencherifa.

Meanwhile, Dempo’s Ranti Martins and Churchill’s Kalu Nnanna are under observation though the initial reports claim that things are fine. The Nigerian duo clashed in the 73rd minute of the game and had to be rushed in an ambulance for the medical check-up.
