Mumbai: Mumbai City FC announced the signing of the talented Indian pair of Lalchhuanmawai Fanai and Udanta Singh for the third season of Indian Super League (ISL) 2016.
The franchise is thrilled to boost its squad with the addition of these talented Indian footballers.
Mumbai City FC's towering left-back Fanai has been retained for ISL 2016. Hailing from the village of Lengpui in the state of Mizoram, Fanai made his debut with Shillong Lajong where he remained for 2 seasons before joining Bengaluru FC. He had an incredible season with Bengaluru FC, winning the Federation Cup in 2015, placing second in the I- League for the 2014-2015 season and then going on to become a part of the squad that won the I- League last season.
Joining his Bengaluru FC teammate at Mumbai City FC is 20-year-old striker, Udanta Singh. Starting his football career at the tender age of 14 at the TATA Football Academy, Udanta came up the ranks and represented his academy at the Darjeeling Gold Cup and Saras Gold Cup.
Terrorizing defenders with his crafty footwork and impeccable skill, Udanta became Bengaluru's youngest goal-scorer. Sent to Oxford United for a development training stint under Michael Appleton, Udanta came back stronger and won the I- League with Bengaluru FC last year.
Commenting on the selection, Indranil Das Blah, CEO, Mumbai City FC said, "We are elated to announce the signing of Fanai and Udanta. Fanai proved his mettle last season as well, and we're glad to have him back with us. Udanta had a great season in the I-League and is one of the most promising players in the country right now. His continued inclusion in the National Squad at such a young age is a testament to that.
We are sure they're going to play a big part in the upcoming season."
On being retained by Mumbai City FC, Fanai said, "It is great to be back in Mumbai. The results weren't the best last season, but the fans of the city were always backing us. I hope I can play my part to give them a better season this time around."
