David Beckham was formally inducted into the Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy last Friday. On Monday, Beckham attended his first training session for his new club with frenzied fans looking forward to his first match.

LA Galaxy's move to acquire instant stardom has started paying off - over a 1000 fans turned up to watch David Beckham's first practise session for Galaxy and it looks like the number 23 shirt has already become a merchandising dream in LA.

"He's an awesome soccer player and he's pretty hot so it kinda works both ways," said Brittany Bagheri, adding, "He's probably one of the most famous athletes in the world right now and to have him play in one of the minor leagues of the world is like incredible to have him in Los Angeles, so we're really excited to come see him play."

Beckham, took to the field with his new team-mates in a brand new gold jersey. But an ankle injury suffered last month kept him to just stretching and kicking drills. Fans might have to wait a little longer to watch him bend it like he does.

"Like I said before, we're not going to force him to play because that would be wrong. If he's ready to play he'll play, but we'll wait and see. Again, we're still waiting to see in the next couple of days how he does respond. But we won't put him in any danger of making it long-term. That's for sure, because he's coming along nicely. We've got to make sure that we do the correct thing by him and we don't force him to play," Frank Yallop, L.A. Galaxy head coach.

David's team-mates too are looking forward to his debut and the exposure that he will bring to his new club.

"Oh yeah, this is a great environment. You know, this is the kind of things you need. This is what it's like overseas, and to get a little taste of this really makes the team feel good. It makes you know the city is behind you. And it's nice to have David out here, you know," said Kyle Veris, L.A. Galaxy defender.

Beckham's first test will be against his former English Premiere League rivals Chelsea - if he recovers in time.
