New Delhi: Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi has said that beating Brazil in Saturday's World Cup qualifier would be the perfect end to the year.
Messi was confirmed as European Club Footballer of the Year last week and added the UEFA Super Cup to his haul of medals following Barca's treble in 2008-09.
Now, the Ballon d'Or favourite is targeting a win over the Selecao to top off a fantastic year.
"Beating Brazil would be the best sort of finale to the year," AS quoted Messi as saying.
"I've had a great year and it would be great to finish with a win. Beating Brazil would be the crowning glory."
The 22-year-old acknowledged that victory for his side will not be easily achieved against the leaders of the South American CONMEBOL qualifying group.
"It will be a difficult game but we must think only about ourselves and playing our type of football," said Messi, who is set to win his 39th international cap on Saturday.
Diego Maradona's Argentina are making hard work of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Currently they lie fourth in the group, just two points ahead of Ecuador with four games remaining.
With only the top four guaranteed qualification Argentina still have work to do in their remaining fixtures against Brazil, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
