Vikram Bhatt’s psychological thriller film Kasoor was released in 2001. It marked the second Bollywood outing for Aftab Shivdasani and marked Lisa Ray’s debut. Though a moderate success at the box office, the film is remembered for its memorable music album. Now, 23 years later, a sequel to Kasoor has been announced. Much like the prequel, this film will also feature Aftab, who will make his Bollywood comeback with it. However, neither Vikram will be directing it nor Vishesh Films will be producing it.
In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Vikram for the first time reacts to Kasoor 2 and says, “Kasoor sequel… I don’t understand what’s going on! It belongs to Mukesh Bhatt and I believe someone else is making it. I don’t know how that person got the title. But all the best to them.” For the unversed, it will also star Urvashi Rautela. Billed as a horror drama, its shoot is underway, with Glen Barretto and Mudassar Aziz taking on the director and writer roles.
Interestingly, before making his acting debut with Vikram’s Footpath, Emraan Hashmi served as an assistant director on Kasoor along with Mohit Suri. The actor has often spoken about being ‘brash’ back in those days and talking about the same, the filmmaker says, “He was an AD for just ten days. He’s someone who has always been aloof. He was years junior to me. It’s not like he was my friend that I would see that side of me. His contemporaries like Mohit Suri will be able to tell you that. But I remember dubbing for him in Footpath because he didn’t know how to dub. He told me that if he dubs, he would end up spoiling his performance.”
Besides Kasoor, another film by Vikram whose sequel is in the works is Awara Paagal Deewana, a comedy film that starred Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Aftab, and Paresh Rawal. As per reports, the original cast will be joined by Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. The film will be directed by Ahmed Khan. But he’s fine with not directing it and passing on the reins to someone else.
Commenting on it, the Raaz and Ghulam maker says, “All the best to Firoz (Nadiadwala; producer) always! I don’t wish that I was making the sequel of Awara Paagal Deewana. I’m not in that place in my mind. That film happened in 2002. This is 22 years later. I’m not the same man. A lot has changed.”
Vikram discloses that he’s ready to turn over a new leaf in his career and even hints at returning to the comedy genre 19 years after Deewane Huye Pagal. “I do want to break new ground and that’s what I’m going to work on. In fact, that’s what I’ve been working on. Bloody Ishq was one of the last films that I had started and had to finish till I started a new chapter and now I’m looking forward to that. This new chapter will have a comedy film too,” he shares.
