“One Teacher, One Call” Campaign for Special Children
Deepmala Pandey, a teacher from Uttar Pradesh, has received national recognition for her extraordinary efforts to help special needs children. She developed the “One Teacher, One Call” programme, which has brought together over 50 other educators to assist hundreds of children with special needs get education. Her initiatives have resulted in many previously overlooked children getting enrolled in school. Deepmala’s dedication has not gone unnoticed—Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged her significant efforts in his “Mann Ki Baat”, praising her as a beacon of hope for special needs children.
Innovating Science Education for Hearing-Impaired Students
Sunita, a committed teacher from Rajasthan, has also gained attention for her distinctive work with hearing-impaired kids. She has pioneered a novel method of teaching science, making it more accessible and entertaining for deaf students. Sunita created a science lab exclusively for these children, instilling an interest in science in them. Her activities include creating online teaching modules and e-videos suited to the requirements of deaf students, ensuring that education is inclusive and effective.
Investing Salary for School Transformation
Ramachandra N, a teacher from Kilambur, is a shining example of of a teacher who is committed to his profession. He dedicated eighty per cent of his salary, in addition to his duties as a teacher, towards upgrading his school and offering students greater learning opportunities. Recognising the importance of technological education, he purchased laptops and mobile phones for the school. In an effort to promote discipline and equality among pupils, he also instituted mandatory uniforms. In 2022, he received the National Best Teacher Award for his remarkable dedication to raising educational standards through personal sacrifice.
