It is always a pleasure to read about success stories of those who have fought odd circumstances and made it big in life. The story of Gyanendra Bharti from Purnia, Bihar is no different. Gyanendra, who cracked the UPSC exams by securing 537th rank, is the son of a farmer. His mother is employed in the public distribution system. According to reports, Gyanendra Bharti – a resident of Banmankhi in Purnia district – is the son of Ranjana Bharti, Nageshwar Yadav. Gyanendra shared with Local 18 that he faced failure in the UPSC exam for four consecutive attempts. Despite this, he received support and blessings from all his family members. Encouraged by this, he made a fifth attempt and achieved the 537th rank in the UPSC exam in September 2023.

Gyanendra Bharti informed Local 18 that in 2016, he secured a position at the Small Industries Development Bank of India. Since then, his job has required him to reside in various states, posing challenges to his studies. With bank duties spanning from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, finding time for studying was exceptionally difficult. Nonetheless, he persisted in his educational pursuits, juggling them alongside family responsibilities and caring for his family. He would work in the morning and prepare himself for the exams at night.

Gyanendra did not take any personal coaching and instead relied on self study. He solved question papers from past years and went through different study material. He said that during his failed attempts, he could not crack the interview round. But with his hard work, even today, while working in a bank, he has cleared UPSC and brought glory to the district by securing 537th rank. Currently, he is still working in Small Industries Development Bank of India in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Gyanendra’s father Nageshwar Yadav farms on a 5 acre land in Janaki Nagar of Banmankhi in Purnia. His father, as well as the entire district has expressed their happiness and pride at Gyanendra securing the impressive rank in the competitive exam.
