Himachal Pradesh Lawyer Gets Appointed As Judicial Research Associate At Supreme Court
After completing his legal studies in 2023, he practised for a year at the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Vanshaj Azad, a lawyer from Sarkaghat in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh has recently achieved significant success by securing a position as a Judicial Research Associate at the Supreme Court. Residing in the village of Bhalwan, Vanshaj has the distinction of being the first lawyer from Himachal Pradesh to be appointed to this prestigious position. His selection is a source of pride for the Mandi region and has been celebrated across the state.

Vanshaj Azad has always been passionate about law, which influenced his decision to pursue a legal education. He completed his early education in Sarkaghat and later attended the National Law University in Shimla. After completing his legal studies in 2023, he practised for a year at the Himachal Pradesh High Court, where he was involved in key cases against the CPS and the Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh.

His journey to the Supreme Court began with passing a rigorous examination in March, followed by a successful interview in June, leading to his appointment starting July 8, 2024. Vansh credits his achievement to the support and guidance of his teachers, his late grandparents, his parents, and his sister Dr Parika, along with HAS officer Vipin Thakur.

Out of over 15,000 candidates, Vanshaj was the first from Himachal Pradesh to be selected for this role at the Supreme Court. His father is a prominent state Congress leader, and his mother serves as a school principal. His sister is a doctor engaged to a HAS officer. Vanshaj is committed to serving with integrity and dedication in his new role at the Supreme Court.

Besides, Supreme Court Justice AS Bopanna bid farewell to the Supreme Court on Friday on his last working day before his official retirement on May 19. In his speech, he urged the lawyers to “carry a heart that never hates, carry a smile that never faints, carry a touch that never hurts.” Recalling his long journey, Justice Bopanna, who hails from Coorg, said he was not sure when he got his LLB.
