BPSC Jobs Alert: Applications to Open for 1964 Vacancies for 70th Combined Examination
The number of vacancies offered by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) for its 70th Combined Examination has reached a record of 1,964, nearly doubling from last year and intensifying competition. New exam rules further highlight the need for careful preparation

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced a major recruitment drive for its 70th Combined Examination. This year, the commission is offering a record 1,964 job openings, creating significant opportunities for job seekers across the state.

Commission Chairman Parmar Ravi Manubhai stated, “This is the largest recruitment for our combined civil service examination, and we expect candidates from all over the country to apply. This time, a significant change has been introduced: for every three incorrect answers, one mark will be deducted from a correct answer, a shift from the previous rule of four wrong answers. This adjustment has been made following the style of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This will require candidates to answer more carefully.”

The BPSC is expected to receive 8 to 10 lakh applications this year. The number of vacant positions has nearly doubled compared to last year, where exams were held for 400 to 800 posts. Now, with 1,964 positions open, the competition is expected to be even tougher.

The preliminary exam will consist of 150 objective-type questions. Candidates will have 2 hours to complete it. There will also be negative markings. Only one-tenth of the those candidates appearing for the preliminary exam will be selected for the Mains exam.

The Mains exam will have two compulsory subjects and one optional subject. The compulsory subjects include General Hindi (100 marks) and General Studies (Paper 1 and Paper 2), each worth 300 marks.

The optional subject will also carry 300 marks. Candidates who pass the Mains exam will be selected for an Interview which will carry 120 marks. Following the interview, a final Merit List will be prepared.

The minimum age limit for applicants is between 20 to 22 years. The maximum age for General category candidates is 37 years, for Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes, the age limit is 40 years, and for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the age limit is 42 years.

Government employees are permitted to appear for the examination up to five times. Candidates in the General category will have to pay Rs 600 as an application fee, whereas SC/ST, women, and disabled candidates will have to pay Rs 150. Candidates from all other categories will be required to pay Rs 600 as well.
