Raina was an integral part of the five-time IPL winners, playing under the captaincy of Dhoni for 11 seasons. He is the fifth-highest scorer in the tournament’s history with 5528 runs in 205 matches, at an impressive strike rate of 136.73 and an average of 32.52. In his IPL career, Raina smashed 39 fifties and one century. He also made some impact with the ball, picking up 25 wickets. Meanwhile, CSK will be looking to defend their crown this season under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad. Head coach Stephen Fleming said that the former skipper took the call after much thinking. Considering that they had won the title in 2023, Dhoni felt that it was the right time to hand the baton over to fresh blood. The coach also revealed that there were some minor celebrations around the new captain in the locker room.
The defending champions will be looking to secure an early victory to improve their chances of lifting the trophy for a second successive time.
