Real recognises real. Well, no wonder that Sachin Tendulkar did the same, as the legendary Indian batter heaped praise on both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, talismans of Indian cricket, for their decorated careers upon news of their retirement from T20Is.
Rohit Sharma’s career has been nothing short of the stuff of dreams for all, and the Indian skipper staked his claim, stating that his triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup as captain was the ‘greatest’ moment of his career so far.
Rohit, who captained India to T20 World Cup glory at Barbados, finishes as the highest scorer in T20Is – 4231 runs in 159 matches – and also holds the record for the most centuries in men’s T20Is via fine tons, apart from being a two-time world champion in the shortest format.
“@ImRo45, I’ve witnessed your evolution from a promising youngster to a World Cup-winning captain from close quarters. Your unwavering commitment & exceptional talent have brought immense pride to the nation. Leading India to a T20 World Cup victory is the perfect culmination of your stellar career. Well done, Rohit,” wrote ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin on his post on X.

Kohli, on the other hand, made repairs for his tumultuous campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup with an innings-saving 76 off 59 balls, to helps steer India to safety and their historic total of 176 runs.
Kohli ended his T20I career as India’s second-highest run-scorer in the format, through 4188 runs in 125 games at an average of 48.69 and strike rate of 137.04.
“@imVkohli, you have been a true champion of this sport. You may have had a rough time earlier in the tournament, but last night you proved why you’re truly one of the greats of the gentleman’s game. Competing in six World Cups and clinching victory in the last one is an experience I know well. I hope to see you continue winning matches for India in the longer formats of the game,” stated Sachin.
After Kohli’s magical innings, it was time for India’s finest with the ball to shine. And shine they did, when the moment called for it, as the likes of Hardik Pandya and the ever-imminent Jasprit Bumrah delivered a masterclass in death bowling to seal a nail-biting 7-run win over the Proteas, to clinch the coveted T20 WC trophy.
