'There is No Greater Happiness': Mohammed Shami Lauds Cricket Fans for Recognising India's Dominant Bowling Attack
Mohammed Shami credited India's dominant bowling attack to the trust they have built over the past seven to eight years.

Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami who was the star with the ball for India in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2023, hosted by India was elated to see the love that the Indian bowlers had received for their performances in the marquee tournament last year. Shami had been part of News18 India’s event called ‘Chaupaa,’ where the star man had spoken in depth regarding the appreciation that Indian fast-bowling had received.

Shami was asked the question if the Indian pacers are now being lauded in the same category as the star batters throughout Indian cricket history. To this, Shami responded by recalling how the fast-bowling unit was able to get to their current position.

Shami commented, “People talk about the performance of the bowlers during the World Cup, but, if you have to look at the overall picture, you have to go back to 2013 and 2014. That is where the journey started.”

The likes of Mohammed Shami had made his debut for the Indian side back in 2013 where the journey of India’s pace attack becoming the dominant force they are currently, began.

Shami said, “If we look at the facts now, we only had three fast bowlers performing in the World Cup this time, which makes us believe that we have set the benchmark for future bowlers.”

However, Shami posed the argument that the journey for India’s dominant pace attack began in the past seven to eight years. He credited the likes of Ishant Sharma, and Umesh Yadav among many others which enabled the bowling unit to set the benchmark for future generations.

He mentioned, “The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, and Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah came in after and then Mohammed Siraj. Like this, this team could set a benchmark on its own.”

The star Indian pacer proudly highlighted the fact that the Indian bowlers have been able to compete at the highest level going up against the best opposition on their home conditions as well. Shami said,”If you look at the records of the past 6-8 years, we can see that the Indian cricket team has been able to take on any opposition on their home soil. This increased our confidence which enabled us to build trust in us which carried on through to 2024.”

Shami concluded by saying, “The people who used to like the Indian cricket team for their batting have now started cheering for us. There is no greater happiness than this.”

Currently, the star Indian pacer has been out of action since the World Cup and has missed the tour of South Africa, the T20I series against Afghanistan and now the ongoing Test series against England at home as well. But fans will be eager to see Shami back in action with the T20 World Cup coming up around the corner.
