After hustling for two straight months, the members of Team India have assembled in New York for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, starting later this week. Rohit Sharma & Co will begin their campaign on June 5 against Ireland in Nassau County, New York. India have been placed in Group A, alongside Ireland, Canada, hosts USA and arch-rivals Pakistan.
On Wednesday, the men in blue, sans Virat Kohli, began their preparations for the T20 World Cup with a morning training session, considering the 10.30 am starts for all its preliminary games. A white kookaburra in slightly windy mornings could be a challenge and to be prepared for that, the severely jet-lagged bodies need to get used to morning conditions.
Skipper Rohit Sharma took to the microblogging site X and shared a few pictures from the training session.
“Good to be back,” Rohit X post read.

Virat Kohli yet to join the squad in America
Kohli took a break for personal work after RCB’s IPL ouster and in all likelihood, he will join the squad by Friday. On Monday, News18 CricketNext had reported that the star India batter will likely link up with the squad before the only warm-up fixture, vs Bangladesh on June 1. It is understood that he will fly towards the end of the month.
“He will reach New York before the warm-up vs Bangladesh on June 1. Whether he plays or not in the warm-up will be management’s call – whether they feel there is enough gap between him landing and the warm-up fixture,” said a source close to developments.
All eyes on India vs Pakistan fixture
After Ireland, India will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9 at Nassau County. They take on hosts USA on June 12 before the cricket caravan moves to familiar Lauderhill in Florida for the game against Canada on June 15.
India are supposed to be clubbed A1 irrespective of where they finish in the group and will then proceed to the Caribbean islands for the Super 8 phase of the tournament where they would meet Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
