Rohit Sharma To Virat Kohli: Best XI Of Indian Players Who'll Miss Duleep Trophy 2024
Despite BCCI making it mandatory for Indian players to play in domestic cricket, many high-profile players will miss the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024 match due to various reasons.

The 2024 edition of the Duleep Trophy is set to take place in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Many high-profile Indian players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kuldeep Yadav among others will be in action during the first round of matches, which is set to start on Thursday (September 5). But many others will miss the action due to various reasons.

Here’s a look at the best XI of Indian players who will miss the Duleep Trophy 2024

Rohit Sharma (C): Indian captain Rohit Sharma will not be seen in action during the Duleep Trophy 2024 matches. There were reports of participation in the premier domestic tournament, but the 37-year-old right-handed batter was rested by the BCCI, keeping in mind the busy Test season ahead.

Prithvi Shaw: Shaw, who became the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut in October 2018, last played a red-ball match for India in December 2020. He was part of the Mumbai team that won the Ranji Trophy last season but was not considered for a place in any of the four squads announced by the BCCI last month.

Hanuma Vihari: 30-year-old Hanuma Vihari, who has played 16 Tests, last represented India in July 2022 against England. He has scored more than 9000 runs in first-class cricket with an average of 51.80, but despite that, he was not considered for the Duleep Trophy 2024.

Virat Kohli: Like Rohit, Virat was also expected to take part in the Duleep Trophy but was rested by the BCCI. The former Indian captain last played a red-ball match in January 2024 against South Africa in Cape Town. He missed the five-match Test series against England at home due to the birth of his second child.

Ajinkya Rahane: Former India Test vice captain Ajinkya Rahane was dropped from the team after the flop show in the first away series of the 2023-25 WTC cycle. The 36-year-old led Mumbai to a title win in the Ranji Trophy last season and has impressed with his performances for Leicestershire, but he was ignored by BCCI selectors for the Duleep Trophy.

Sanju Samson (WK): Samson was part of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 winning team and is a centrally contracted player as well, but despite that, he was not picked in any of the four squads.

Ravindra Jadeja: Ravindra Jadeja was picked in the India B team when the Duleep Trophy 2024 squads were announced by the BCCI last month. But the world No. 1 Test all-rounder was released last week and will now miss the Duleep Trophy 2024 matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin: World No. 1 Test bowler Ashwin was not named in any of the four squads for the Duleep Trophy. Although no official reason was given by the board in regard to Ashwin’s absence, it has been reported that the premier spinner was rested.

Jasprit Bumrah: Indian premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t played any competitive match since playing in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 30-year-old pacer has been rested for the premier domestic tournament.

Mohammed Shami: Shami, who finished as the leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup last year, is still recovering from the ankle injury, which is why he was not picked for the Duleep Trophy. The star fast bowler is expected to make a comeback next month in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal.

Mohammed Siraj: Siraj was named in the India B squad by the BCCI selectors on August 14, but he was released on August 27 due to illness and will now miss the first round of matches.

The first round of Duleep Trophy matches will help Indian players to get some game time and prepare for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home.
