Rocky Flintoff, the son of England legend Andrew Flintoff, has shattered a treasured record of his father with his maiden century for Lancashire’s second XI. The 16-year-old struck 116 runs off 165 balls in the first innings of a match against Warwickshire at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham.
His knock comprised as many as 11 boundaries and three maximums. Coming in to bat at number 5, Rocky breached the triple-figure mark facing 151 deliveries. With this, the teenager became the youngest batter to notch a century for a second XI, bettering his father’s 30-year-old record by 250 days.

Edgbaston seems to be the favourite ground for the Flintoff family. This was the venue where Andrew Flintoff put up his career-best Test score of 167 against the West Indies back in 2004. He also had an unforgettable outing at Edgbaston during the 2005 Ashes series. Against Warwickshire, Rocky Flintoff came up with some terrific shots and his batting reminded fans of his father. Apart from Rocky, no other batter from Lancashire’s second XI managed to spend a significant time at the crease.

Rocky Flintoff began the rescue operation with England’s Saqib Mahmood. The duo stitched a 100-plus partnership, bringing their team back into the contest. Rocky also shared the crease with his elder brother Corey Flintoff, who contributed 20 runs to the scorecard.
Rocky Flintoff, who made his debut in age-group cricket earlier this month, has been in sublime form in recent times. Before featuring in the match against Warwickshire, he scored an unbeaten fifty against Durham at Old Trafford in Manchester last week. His blistering knock comprised three sixes.

Meanwhile, Andrew Flintoff has played 79 Tests, 141 ODIs and 7 T20Is for the England national team. Andrew announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in September 2010, After bidding adieu to the sport, Flintoff started his career as a television personality.

The 46-year-old has now been recovering from injuries that he sustained during the filming of BBC’s Top Gear in December 2022. The former all-rounder was in an open-topped three-wheel 130mph Morgan Super 3 car which faced a horrific crash. Flintoff suffered facial injuries and broke several ribs.
