Virat Kohli suffered yet another unfortunate dismissal in the ongoing T20 World Cup as India locked horns with England in the second semi-final on Friday. Failing to provide a good start to the team, he was cleaned up for 9 by Reece Topley in the third over of the innings after India were asked to bat first. The former Indian captain has so far accumulated just 75 runs in seven innings, averaging 10.71.

After scoring just 1 off the first five balls, Kohli looked to gain momentum with a cracking six against Topley. But the English pacer made a quick comeback and cleaned up the former Indian captain. Kohli looked to heave across after shimming down the line. But Topley’s good length ball shaped into the batter, beating him by the movement to tumble the top of leg-stump.

Kohli wasn’t happy at all and his frustration was evident on his face when returned into the dugout and took his seat. He conveyed his disappointment to head coach Rahul Dravid with a slight nod who then consoled the ace Indian batter.

England had another success when Rishabh Pant was out for just four after chipping Sam Curran to midwicket. But Rohit, displaying the range of his strokeplay, hit two fours in three balls off leg-spinner Adil Rashid — a reverse sweep followed by a conventional sweep.

India were 65-2 off eight overs after losing the toss when rain stopped play in Guyana on Thursday.

In-form India captain Rohit Sharma, fresh from his blistering 92 in a victory over Australia, was 37 not out off 26 balls, including six fours. Suryakumar Yadav was unbeaten on 13 in a match whose start was delayed by a pre-game downpour.

Wednesday’s first semi-final in Trinidad, in which South Africa thrashed Afghanistan by nine wickets, had a reserve day set aside in the event of rain. But the England v India game, taking place during a traditionally wet period of the year, has only 250 minutes of extra time set aside to ensure a result.
