Most Ducks in IPL History: Rohit Sharma Equals Dinesh Karthik's Unwanted Record
Rohit Sharma was out for a golden duck against Rajasthan Royals on Monday as Mumbai Indians suffered their third defeat in the trot.

Mumbai Indians crashed to their third defeat of IPL 2024 on Monday night and remain glued to the bottom of the standings. They suffered a batting collapse against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium and managed a low score of 125/9 and it was largely thanks to an attacking 21-ball 34 from captain Hardik Pandya and a measured 29-ball 32 from Tilak Varma.

MI’s top-order failed against the new-ball duo of Trent Boult and Nandre Burger with as many as three batters registering a golden duck each. Among those who failed to open account on Monday was former MI captain Rohit who was caught behind in the very first over after RR opted to bowl first.

This was the 17th time that Rohit has registered a duck in his IPL career and with that, he has drawn level with Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Dinesh Karthik for the most ducks in the competition’s history.

Piyush Chawla,  Mandeep Singh, Glenn Maxwell and Sunil Narine are joint-second on this list with 15 ducks each.

Manish Pandey, Rashid Khan and Ambati Rayudu are joint-third (14 ducks each) while Harbhajan Singh, Parthiv Patel and Ajinkya Rahane are joint-fourth (13 ducks each). Gautam Gambhir completes the top-five with 12 ducks to his name.

Rohit has had a mixed start to his IPL 2024 having scored 43 in MI’s first game against Gujarat Titans before scoring a quick 26 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, MI continued their winless run in the season having suffered third defeat in a row. Currently they are 10th on the points table and they have a break of six days now before returning to action against Delhi Capitals in a day game on Sunday.

MI qualified for the IPL playoffs last season after finishing fourth in the standings. They got the better of Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator but then lost to GT in the second qualifier.
